Spiritual Companioning
I received my training at the Contemplative Listening Program at Namaste in Portland, OR and became certified as a spiritual director in May, 2006.
I offer spiritual direction (also known as spiritual companioning) to people of all faiths, including those who consider themselves atheists, agnostics, or pagans. If you're not sure what spiritual direction is, you're not alone! Here are some questions and answers to get us started.
What Is Spiritual Direction?
In our lonely and often disconnected world, it is a rare and special gift to have someone who listens openly and non-judgmentally to you, and who gently re-orients you toward the deeper currents of your life, while offering you questions for further reflection on your life’s meaning.
People often enter spiritual direction at a time when they are trying to discern a new path for their lives, or at times of transition, or when life just seems somehow empty.
Spiritual direction is very gentle.
A spiritual director’s primary task is to create a safe container for you to reflect on your life and the movement of those deeper currents.
From that quiet listening place may come questions, suggestions for spiritual practice, reflections on your journey, prayers.
Often, spiritual direction leads to a deeper experience of connection with yourself and with whatever you hold most sacred.
I’m an Atheist/Agnostic/Pagan/None of the above.
Can I benefit from Spiritual Direction?
Absolutely. My definition of spirituality is: “The experience of connecting withsomething greater than oneself, which is worthy of reverence.”
All you need in order to benefit from spiritual direction is a desire to connect with the deeper currents of your life, with your inner wisdom, with Life itself.

If I Am Interested in Exploring Spiritual Direction,
What Comes Next?
Call or email me and we will set up a time for an informal half-hour orientation session, when you can ask me any questions you wish, and we will talk about what sort of arrangements we desire.
We will then set up our first spiritual direction appointment.
Usually, spiritual directors and directees meet about once a month. Some people continue with the same director for a long time, some for a shorter time, and some see their spiritual director intermittently. Spiritual direction can also be done on the phone.
If you choose to enter spiritual direction with me, we’ll agree to a covenant that will spell out our mutual expectations. There is a sliding fee scale of $40 to $80 per session, depending on your circumstances.
Unlike in therapy, where healing is the goal, spiritual direction can go on for many years because its basic assumption is that you are already whole and complete.
A spiritual director accompanies you as you continue on life’s path, helping you to reflect on meaning, discern your path, find deeper joy.
I look forward very much to hearing from you.
